Shapiro Family Cooks Christmas Dinner

For many years, volunteers from Hollywood Casino have provided Christmas dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey.  The tradition continues this year in an extra special way with the meal being prepared by Chef Ken Shapiro & his family, who previously stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey.

“Hollywood Casino has been doing Christmas Dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey for many years now,” said Mario Stanzione, Executive Chef at Hollywood Casino. “But this year touches us even more as one of our own has used the services and is going to give back with his family.”

Chef Ken and his family utilized the Ronald McDonald House as their daughter was battling Leukemia and receiving treatment at Penn State Children’s Hospital. The Ronald McDonald House was helpful to the Shapiro family as they were traveling back and forth from Carlisle, PA to be with their daughter, while still caring for their school-age son.

“Ken is a great guy and likes to give back to the community,” Mario said. “He wants to thank the organization that helped his family and provide a service to the families who are going through similar situations.”

The Shapiro family is planning on serving: ham, baked ziti, mashed potatoes, green beans and an array of desserts for the families to choose from.

“The Ronald McDonald House has been instrumental in our community helping families stay together,” Mario said. “It is important for all of us to help our community, which is why we like to donate and volunteer anytime we can.”
